As travel gets closer and closer by the day, my to do list gets longer and longer and longer. We know we will be gone quite awhile. We know that when we do come home, there will be some serious adjustments. A lot to do. A few days to do it. And yet, the time crawls by while we wait for our travel date. We are planning toward leaving next Thursday so that we can be at the consulate on Friday and in Colombia by Monday. Not certain enough to buy tickets, but that is the plan at the moment.
At lunch today I was thinking about the girls and what it will be like for them here. Of course there are the usual concerns. Language barrier, attachment, food changes... but what about the little stuff?
We should be home sometime in September. The seasons don't change there, not really. Fall weather will seem more normal to them, but they have never experienced temperatures over 70 or so. They have never seen the leaves change or fall. They have never had a Thanksgiving dinner. They probably haven't seen a real snowfall, just flurries... maybe. They don't know who Santa is. The American version of Christmas is much more secular (though we started working to change that in our home last year). So many things will be firsts, will be different, will be new. Can you imagine? WOW. I am overwhelmed for them already.
We are still raising money toward legal fees. If you want to help...
